CHAPTER 23: OCTOBER, BLACK HISTORY MONTH

♥ ♥ ♥

“I refuse to accept the view that mankind is so tragically bound to the starless midnight of racism and war that the bright daybreak of peace and brotherhood can never become a reality…. I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word.”
—Martin Luther King, Jr

I know that many people still don’t understand why black history month exists and why there are so many movements fighting for black people’s right such as “Black lives matter”, me being a black woman I can have a say in this matter even if it can be somehow controversial or a bit too much for some people. Growing up I learned that I will always have a disadvantage in society just solely for being black whether in the workplace or simply when utilising public services. It is sad that in this day and age there is still a lot of discrimination and inequalities around the world but I am proud to be black for a simple reason, even though we have been through so much we are still cheerful and happy people and are very strong in average.

I am sadden that we don’t learn much about slavery in schools the same way that we learn about the Holocaust, I’ve always wondered why and never really got the answer. However, I was really lucky to learn more about my ancestor’s history when I was rehearsing an act that had to do with slavery and I very much enjoyed it. I do believe that two of my favourite heroes has to be Martin Luther King Jr.  anrosa_parksd Rosa Parks for being so brave by standing up for not only their individual rights but for the whole nation. Nevertheless over the years there are many other iconic black role models that have fought for the black communities and devoted their whole lives just to make the world a better place for the future generations.

Nelson Mandela was also a great man who has sacrificed a lot to free South Africa and won many awards throughout his life. He was also the first black South African president elected in a completely democratic election. He passed away with a legacy title of being “the father of the nation” within South Africa.

It is important that the young people and the future generations to have the knowledge of black history to avoid losing their roots and to give them a chance for them to understand who they are and where they came from. I believe in this because, I can see a problem in this society in which some black people from certain countries refuse to be called black or African or even having African blood, not knowing that their roots came from Africa! I find it very ignorant, they should be proud to be black because our ancestors fought so hard for us to be here today, living and taking advantages of the same things caucasians do. Why be embarrassed or feel self complexity? I will be talking about this further on my next topic “Chapter 24: Bleaching your skin won’t make you more beautiful”.

Also don’t forget to check out all the events taking place to honour Black History month and all the art work presented from all over the country. It can be very interesting to learn more cultural facts whether you’re black or not.

I hope that you guys enjoyed this topic and if you would like to read more please subscribe and leave your opinions.

Love you guys,

Anita xoxo
