“I believe that there’s no improvement if you have an inferiority complex and victim mentality.”
―
You would think that people that have darker skin would be happy and proud to to be blessed with enough melanin to protect their skin cells from UVB radiation damage and reducing the risk of cancer but no, some people actually think that having dark skin is a downfall. I can understand why these people may feel that way as the society allowed oppression towards black people or people that are simply not “light enough”, this has led in people wanting to change who they are on the outside.
People that resort in bleaching their skin believe that this is the way forward for acceptance and to be able to get the same benefits as caucasians. Some also believe that it makes them more attractive. Unfortunately, in some countries this is actually how society works, you get more benefits the lighter you are. This has become a big problem within communities where dark people live in awful conditions due to the lack of opportunities which should be available to everyone.
However, I know people that you can just look at them and see that they bleach their skin and some of them had a beautiful chocolate skin that would make anyone envy, and the saddest thing about that is the fact that they do it because they feel inferior to caucasians, in my opinion.
I’m not here to act all self-righteous but the question is: is this worth it? I think it’s a dumb idea that only puts your life at risk and it makes everyone aware of your self hate. I mean, why would you even consider to be someone you’re not. Maybe it’s a mental problem that we are unaware of or you might just feel less of a person and put lighter skin individuals above you. Anyway it doesn’t matter what the motive is. If you are doing it, stop it. Bleaching your skin doesn’t make you beautiful, in fact it makes you look terrible…no offence!
How bleaching can have a negative impact on your skin
Possible risks of creams containing hydroquinone, corticosteroids or mercury include:
- skin turning dark or too light
- thinning of the skin
- visible blood vessels in the skin
- scarring
- kidney, liver or nerve damage
- abnormalities in a newborn baby (if used during pregnancy)
- Skin cancer can be linked to hydroquinone and all bleaching creams due to the reduction of melanin in the skin.
- Eye damage through exposure to hydroquinone can lead to pigmentation of the eye and permanent damage of the cornea.
- Respiratory tract irritation can result through the inhalation of hydroquinone, including beauty products. Consistent exposure to hydroquinone can lead to decreased lung capacity and other upper respiratory problems.
Just be you, being black is beautiful…
The purpose of this post is to encourage people to stop bleaching and learn to appreciate their skin. It is not worth it and once you damage your skin, there is no way back to fix it. It can scar you permanently. Whether you are light skin or dark skin you are beautiful. We are all different for a reason, it is more amazing to have different colours and different cultures, it gives a chance for us to learn from one another. Instead of feeding the society on negative things such as discrimination, we should be fighting against it by not changing ourselves for anyone. Learn to embrace your dark skin and appreciate it more with all the benefits that it has to offer.
Why do you think that so many light skinned people get a tan? Just think about it…since I am talking about skin here, for those obsessed with tanning. Please take care too and learn to appreciate your own skin complexion as well. Sun beds can also cause skin cancer.
At this point I just feel like humans are never happy with anything and end up damaging themselves for the visual aesthetics.
Anyway I hope that you enjoyed this blog and please subscribe if you would love to read more. Thank you for your support 🙂
P.S. I hope that I did not offend anyone!
