Hi guys,
Once again I came up with a new topic that I’m sure that we can all relate to. Most of us do have a problem with our physical ‘imperfections’ as I would say even though someone else might say that there is nothing wrong with the way we look and that we are indeed perfect!
We always tend to find something wrong
Not all of us, but the majority of us are likely to find something negative in our appearance. This can be bodywise or facial. I for example have been struggling for years in wanting to gain weight and the more I worry about it the less I achieve my goal. I believe that we see that something is wrong with us because of the way some people look at us.
The impact of others judging us
Yes, the way people look at us or make certain comments can really mess with our brain and this damages any confidence or self esteem that we may have left. For example, you may be walking around the street minding your own business and suddenly hear someone gossiping something about you and see them staring at you in a weird manner. I can guarantee that a lot of you will take it to heart and straight away find a new insecurity about yourself rather than being positive and realising that there are people out there wishing to be just like you so they spread hate to knock you down to feed their own egos. As I always say “HATERS WILL ALWAYS HATE!”
I used to care so much on what people thought about me being very little physically that I would avoid taking pictures as people make so many comments about it even though I already know it myself but these days I just embrace it the fact that I could eat a whole elephant and not get fat! However, I do realise that some comments are genuine and for my own well-being and that is ok. Therefore, we need to realise that sometimes we get judged in order to improve ourselves.
Getting judged is not always a bad thing
Although it seems like being judged is always a bad thing, there are times that it can ACTUALLY help us achieve our goals as this pushes us to work harder and become a better person. On this case it really depends on what type of criticism is acceptable. I do not mean bullying someone in order for them to change. What I mean is, sit down with them if they are physically hurting themselves to become something else. For example, a lot of young girls are now trying to be Kylie Jenner and all these celebrities so they mess up their natural good looks by becoming plastic and honestly I find it really sad. Therefore, it is important to watch over our family and friends if they are ruining themselves while trying to become someone else and that sometimes can cause a real tragedy.
When insecurities lead to a disaster
Yes, I do mean tragedy…how many times have you heard of stories of people who were unhappy with their physical appearance taking extreme actions to change and ending up in a disaster?
Ok…It might sound like I am being a hypocrite since I am always talking about embracing who you are and who you want to be but if you do understand where I am coming from, sometimes there is a line we shouldn’t cross. This is because although we might feel happy with these changes, it is affecting our health and is it really worth sacrificing and putting our lives at risk for beauty? Clearly not.
But guess what is the worst case scenario that not feeling comfortable in our own skin can cause? It is when it can lead to severe depression and other mental health such as body dysmorphia, anorexia, obesity and so on that can lead to suicides. So please ladies and gentlemen do take care of yourselves.
Overcoming those insecurities
In order to overcome these insecurities we need to first of all love ourselves. I know that it is easier said than done but if we work hard at it we can do this. We need to find ourselves before anything else, believe that we are worth it and not let anyone put us down. Remember that life is too short to be sad and that the only person you can be is yourself as everyone else is already taken. Be a unique individual and make a difference to the world in your own way. You are worth it and you are beautiful even if you think you are not. We are all different for a purpose, beauty comes in all shapes and sizes.
